Unit Overview

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Program Development

  • Develop and implement the Internal Medicine Residency Program in full compliance with ACGME requirements.
  • Lead all aspects of program design, including curriculum, evaluation tools, rotation schedules, and recruitment strategies.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, professionalism, equity, and wellness.

Accreditation and Compliance

  • Serve as the primary liaison with the ACGME and lead all accreditation activities, including site visits.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ACGME Common and Internal Medicine Program Requirements.
  • Collaborate with institutional GME leadership to maintain institutional accreditation.

Faculty Recruitment and Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate the Associate Program Director and core faculty members.
  • Promote a culture of continuous faculty development, scholarly engagement, and mentorship.

Resident Recruitment and Supervision

  • Oversee resident recruitment, selection, onboarding, and orientation processes.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision, education, and evaluation of residents in accordance with program policies and ACGME standards.

Educational Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the residency program’s educational curriculum, ensuring alignment with ACGME core competencies and institutional priorities.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of high-quality didactic sessions, including noon conferences, morning reports, M&M conferences, and Grand Rounds, with active involvement in teaching and faculty participation.
  • Lead the scholarly mission of the program by fostering a culture of inquiry and encouraging resident and faculty engagement in quality improvement, research, and academic presentations.
  • Participate in key educational committees including the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC), using data-driven methods to support resident advancement and program refinement.
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify and mentor residents in educational activities, including case-based learning, teaching opportunities, and academic career development.
  • Model and promote participation in institutional academic forums such as Practicing Excellence, Grand Rounds, and interdisciplinary conferences.
  • Partner with the APD and faculty team to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment rooted in professionalism, continuous feedback, and educational excellence.

Administrative Oversight

  • Manage program resources and daily operations.
  • Collaborate with Division of Hospital Medicine leadership, hospital executives, department chairs, and affiliated clinical sites to ensure optimal learning environments.
  • Represent the program at institutional, regional, and national forums.

Scholarly Activity

  • Promote and participate in scholarly activities, including quality improvement, research, and presentations.
  • Encourage resident and faculty engagement in academic projects and publications.

Short Description

The Division of Hospital Medicine is seeking an innovative and visionary physician leader to serve as the Program Director for its new Internal Medicine Residency Program. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, accreditation, and implementation of the program in alignment with ACGME standards and institutional goals. This is a unique opportunity to build a dynamic, patient-centered educational experience from the ground up.

License/Certification Requirements

  • MD or DO degree with board certification in Internal Medicine.
  • A minimum of 3 years of GME experience with progressively increasing leadership responsibilities.
  • Eligible for an unrestricted medical license in New Jersey.
  • Academic appointment with Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU).

Special Requirements

• Must provide clinical services at Cooper University Hospital at Cape Regional. (If currently based at another site, a transition to Cape Regional will be required.)

 

• Must hold or be eligible for a faculty appointment at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). Assistance will be provided during onboarding, if needed.
