Unit Overview

  • The Division Head is the physician leader of a clinical division within a Department, Center, or Institute, who leads programs and initiatives to achieve positive outcomes in Cooper’s four pillars: Quality & High Reliability, Cooper Experience, Education & Research, and Growth & Finance, while also serving as a leader within the Medical Staff and the CMSRU.
  • The Division Head oversees Podiatry Division training programs, relationship with CMSRU and academic promotions.  The Division Head reports to the Medical Director of the Bone & Joint Institute at Cooper University Hospital for the purposes of operating the division.

 

 

Short Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Operations

  • Participate in regular meetings with the Medical Director/VP to discuss the four pillars: Growth and Finances, Cooper Experience, Quality, and high reliability, and Education and research and drive outcomes.
  • Assist in the recruitment strategies and the interview process as needed for physicians.
  • Provide feedback to physicians as needed and perform annual formal evaluations.
  • Regularly attend other medical staff committees, as deemed appropriate by the Medical Director.
  • Represent the division/Institute on hospital wide committees.
  • Work closely with nursing and the interdisciplinary team on hospital wide initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Medical Director and administration to achieve organizational goals.

Clinical

  • Provide direct patient care in Podiatry as agreed upon in the contract.
  • Provide comprehensive foot and ankle care in outpatient and inpatient settings, including surgery when indicated.
  • Participate in diabetic foot management, wound care, and limb salvage initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with orthopaedics, endocrinology, infectious disease, and wound care teams.
  • Provide clinical education to medical trainees and APPs.
  • Participate in podiatric call coverage and quality initiatives within the department.

Quality Improvement

  • Work with the Medical Director/Administration to assist with development and maintenance of continuous quality improvement Programs.

Academic

  • Work with the Podiatry Residency Director to ensure strong training programs and compliance with all academic requirements.

Education Requirements

Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited school of podiatric medicine.

Completion of a CPME-accredited podiatric residency (minimum 3 years).

Experience Required

  • Demonstrated leadership skills/experience within the division.
  • Experience with hospital-based wound care or limb preservation is a plus.
  • Commitment to collaborative care and patient safety.

License/Certification Requirements

Board certified or eligible by ABPM or ABFAS.

New Jersey medical license (or eligibility).
